Why a German Saturday School in Charlotte? What is its Purpose?

DEUTSCHE SCHULE CHARLOTTE was founded in 1974 by some parents with the primary goal to help children of the German-speaking community maintain their native language. In addition, the curriculum was designed to improve their language skills and knowledge about the culture and traditions of their home country

At present, more than 100 German and almost 50 Swiss and Austrian companies have established subsidiaries in the Charlotte area. The existence of a German school has helped many of these companies in attracting qualified employees.

Awareness is growing that the knowledge of more languages, combined with familiarity of the culture, history and geography of other countries, is important in our increasingly global environment. This is one of the reasons why DEUTSCHE SCHULE CHARLOTTE has become more attractive for American students as well.

DEUTSCHE SCHULE CHARLOTTE wants to help German-speaking students to increase their language skills and to maintain their cultural heritage in this friendly city, where newcomers are accepted and integrated quickly and easily.

In recent years, enrollment at DSC is shifting to students of German descent who are growing up here and will be living in the United States permanently. As they wish to maintain strong ties to their country of origin, they realize that familiarity with the language, culture and traditions of Germany is the key to achieve that goal.

DEUTSCHE SCHULE CHARLOTTE is open to all qualified students without regard to race, creed or national origin.
